Wwoofers stands for “willing workers on organic farms”. It’s a national network of nearly 900 properties where travellers stay and work on organic farms.
Anyone interested in wwoofing is welcome to stay at the retreat the same week the weekend retreat is on. This means that you can be part of the weekend retreats and stay during the week as well. It’s also the time of the month when we give the retreat some TLC.
The retreat is founded on the principle of helping. One of the main ways the retreat helps others is by passing on knowledge of organic gardening and healthy living. We therefore follow a healthy, nutritious diet which is predominantly vegetarian but we do eat fish occasionally, depending on whether anyone has gone out for a fish lately. We don't eat any dairy products and try to keep the use of processed foods to a minimum. We are also drug, alcohol and smoke free.
The retreat does not belong to anybody but to everybody that believes in the principle of helping. All who walk through the door immediately become part of the retreat family. We therefore all muck in and help out with the daily chores and treat the place as we would our own home.
All who work here do so voluntarily and none of the work done here reaps financial reward. Work usually involves gardening, tree planting, pruning, firewood collection, house work, etc. Wwoofers are expected to do 4 hrs work a day in return for food and board.
The retreat is awesome with the beach about 15 minutes away. If you’re interested let us know as we take people on a first come first serve basis.
