Helper News

The retreat is built on the philosophy of people helping people and the question of who the helper is, and who is being helped, is often arguable. We all have something to give as well as to learn.

We value Helpers with life experience as well as those who may be near the beginning of their own journeys. All Helpers undergo training and are screened before being able to help at the retreat. Support is also offered from Team Leaders and other staff.

The retreat offers a caring and supportive environment as opposed to specialist care. Some individuals may, however, choose to utilise specialist services such as counselling during their stay. Antara is fortunate in having a team of experienced therapists and counsellors to draw upon and such services are offered independently from normal terms of stay.

There are many different skills required to make a place like the Retreat work. Some Helpers may wish to commit to a six month stay, while others may attend the retreat once a week to teach maths, communication skills or offer a therapy of some description. There is also lots of work to be done around the property.

All who are involved with the retreat offer their time freely without expectation. Food and accomodation in a beautiful earthbrick home are provided when on site and the experience is extremely rewarding. All support is greatly valued so if you are interested please contact us to discuss.
